Flavour profile of our Red Curry

How Kat's Red Curry tastes, from first spoon to last.

Warm Red Chilli

Dried red chillies give a deep, rounded warmth, kept mild as standard.

Rich Coconut

A creamy coconut base gives the curry real body.

Sweet Pepper

Sweet peppers add a mellow sweetness against the spice.

Bamboo and Green Beans

Firm bamboo shoots and green beans keep a fresh bite.

Thai Basil Finish

Thai basil adds a sweet, aniseed aroma.

The Story

In Thai, red curry is gaeng phet, which simply means "spicy curry". Its deep colour comes from dried red chillies pounded into a paste with garlic, shallots and lemongrass, giving a richer, rounder warmth than the fresh-chilli brightness of green curry.

One of its best-known versions is gaeng phed ped yang, red curry with roast duck, a dish that reflects the Chinese influence on Bangkok's kitchens.

Kat starts with a red curry paste, adds her own herbs and spices, and cooks it with coconut milk, bamboo shoots, aubergine, green beans, sweet pepper and Thai basil. Despite the name, hers is mild as standard, so just ask if you'd like it hotter.

Perfect For

Perfect if you like a rich, rounded curry without fierce heat.

Ideal for duck lovers, since roast duck in red curry is a Thai classic.

Great with rice to soak up the sauce.
